No time like the present to do, well, just about anything you've been meaning to do. Go vegan? Veganuary can help with that. Start journaling? Dust off that notebook you've had lying around and pick up a pen. I can't help with the above two specifically, but I can help you navigate the murky waters of the lovely island called Manhattan.
If you've been meaning to come to New York, resolve to make it happen in 2016. Or at least seriously think about it. We spend so much time fantasizing about things and are scared to make that first move towards it. This makes it "real" which means it may or may not live up to expectations. New York hardly disappoints, but I fully understand the struggle to set a date, book that flight and research your butt off.
New York is magical for many reasons, but here are a few:
- The city never sleeps. You've heard the expression but don't actually comprehend it's meaning until you're here. Restaurants are open until midnight, people are out at all hours and the subway never shuts down. Times Square (the dreaded but necessary tourist trap) is all lights all the time. 1am feels like 10am. Duane Reade (the pharmacy) is open 24/7 so you can grab that bag of chips you're craving at 2am or a new concealer on the way to dinner because omg where did that zit come from.
- No one cares. While this can be construed as a con, it's pretty great to know when you trip over your own two feet hopping off the sidewalk that no one will stop or stare. They have places to go, people to see..
- Everything is something to see. The subway musicians, the architecture, the cabbies in a rush- they all make New York unique. I love to people watch in Washington Square Park, but you can park yourself on a bench nearly anywhere and have a great story to tell a friend 30 minutes later.
- It doesn't cost anything to walk around or window shop. The sheer amount of buildings to see and stores to pop is astounding. It's true you can live here your whole life and not see or do everything.
If 2016 is the year you plan a trip to New York City, I'd love to show you around one of Manhattan's neighborhoods. Each one has it's own sense of style and charm, along with a bevy of vegan eats and treats. Spring and Summer is the busiest time of the year, so booking a few months in advance is highly encouraged. Of course, I'm super friendly and happy to answer any questions before you purchase your tour. Contact me here.
