When life feels like an arcade game
You put the quarter in and don't know if you're going to win or lose. It's a test of faith, luck and skill. Sounds like a fun night at Dave and Buster's, but it also feels like life.
No one knows how things are going to work out, which has lent itself to the "mindfulness" movement. Stay in the moment, they say. Don't worry about tomorrow. While mindfulness is a skill I practice on the daily, I can't help but feel, like the arcade games, life is rigged. You know they don't just pour out thousands of tickets for anyone! It's frustrating when it's not you walking away with that jumbo sized stuffed animal that wouldn't fit in your car anyway.
Everything is a gamble, but you always have a choice. You choose to take a risk or not. You choose every "right" decision and still end up in a worse-off position. It sucks. But you don't. Because you stick with your morals, values and strong opinions. Because in the long run you don't need that stuffed animal anyway. Because when you get where you're going, and you win that prize, it's going to be bigger and better than anything you dreamed of. And the best part? It will be made for you. You don't want what others win because that was made for them. Life would be boring if our path to glory and prizes looked the same.
The game might not change but neither should you. Stay true to yourself and you'll make it through.
